Built in 1905 as the Albert Hotel on the southeast corner of University Place and 11th Street, this 12 story cast-iron structure was designed by the architectural firm of Henry Janeway Hardenbergh, which also built The Dakota and The Plaza. In 1923, a 6 story Neo-Georgian granite and red brick building was added giving the structure a full block of frontage on University Place stretching from 10th to 11th Street.

In 1985, the entire structure was converted to an elegant 204 apartment cooperative. Today, The Albert is an impeccably maintained full service building with a spectacular landscaped garden on one of the finest blocks in Greenwich Village.
