Building: Palazzo Chupi at 360 West 11th Street in West Village

Palazzo Chupi at 360 West 11th Street in West Village

Palazzo Chupi is nestled in the West Village. A Pompeii-red palazzo, stuccoed on the outside with five huge residences and a swimming pool, and indoor parking. The construction and interior include the reconfigured original building, larger-than-life qualities, generous windows with city and river views, balconies galore, all kinds of spectacular cast-stone or bronze railing, where the interplay between indoor and outdoor spaces is a big part of Palazzo Chupi. The grandness of craftsmanship is used abundantly, the fireplaces are themselves sculptures, the walls thickness range from one and a half feet to four feet, cement tiles from Morocco, clay ones from California and handmade, terra-cotta tiles from North Carolina. The kitchens in each of the Chupi residences- with their board-and-batten wooden ceilings, emerald- green terra-cotta tiles, and cast-concrete countertops dyed chromium-oxide green- is straight out of a Stanford White house.
