I don't think I have way tooooo much free time on my hands. I think I have waaayyyyyy too little free time on my hands.

College educated? Credentials? To post on an anonymous board? About RE, nonetheless....hahaha! That's pretty funny.

Also, kind of ironic that damon took the time to create a post on SE calling other people morons!

Unfortunately, I think the streeteasy bloggers have severely discredited streeteasy. Most people now know that streeteasy members are disgruntled haters who complain about anything and everything.

The consensus of people that are looking at real estate is that streeteasy is more gossip and a social connection site than anything else. Everything stated here is a 'take it for what it's worth'.

It used to be fairly reputable until Setpember and October when everyone was saying it was the end of the world as everyone knew it and to stock up on cans of tuna and shotgun ammo. Downhill ever since.

So, let me get this right... when the folks were still here saying "real estate will go up forever", it was reputable... but now that most of those people have been proven painfully wrong, and the ones who called it RIGHT are still here, suddenly its not "reputable".

Methinks someone's just a little pissy about the crash...

SE is poised for something big, mainly because this forum. It is changing an information paradigm in RE, with the help of a remarkable group of very smart people All attempts to discredit this board are futile, like brokers waiving their armsin the water as they sink. Many of this posters are extremely valuable. They saved me from making a couple of really bad choices and taught me a ton about technicalities, like why no buy a condo in a 2 unit condo even if it is great, why to choose a 3 unit over a 4 unit multifamily because of tax reasons, how does a pre-foreclosure works, and the noises I can encounter in a particular street.

Let's be honest here - very few, if any credible posters ever said any of that. There was always some bickering and ridiculousness (some of it funny though), but it's gotten "worse" as exposure to SE has increased. Nobody's nearly as "pissy" about anything as you are defensive and crotchety about pretty much anything discussed here.

Oh, now I get it, damon is about to call us bitter renters, losers and all that. And kingdeka will second him because, you know, things are very reputable when those allowed to spew their opinions are only the trade "experts" such as realtwhores and their trade representatives David Lereah and Lawrence Yun. And their naked and in disguise minions here. Sure. Just for comparison's sake, why don't you take a walk by the so-called discussion threads at curbed or other websites, to see how intelligent, informed and articulated the discussion in SE is. And it would be even better if all you realtors finally capitulated and understood that spreading misinformation and stupidity won't do your business any good.

Just had a conversation with a journalist in THE newspaper. Guess what, they're doing another story on SE, and guess what again: it's pretty much what damonp2166 is saying.
Deterioration of a valuable initiative when it becomes "social network" of "piss off"s, "bugger off"s and "brokers are pieces of sh*t"s.
It's a future of self-involved non-productive individuals who, for some mysterious reason, believe that the sun shines from their collective ass.
Then again, let them... At some point, if this site has any RE value, they'll be sifted out; or it will be just a listings site. Not bad, either.

Yes, no one said it when you exclude all the people who said it.

Awesome point.

Who gives a shit what newspapers say? Talk about agendas. Maybe newspapers should worry more about their deteriorating balance sheets, crappy "journalism", and the fact that no one reads their garbage anymore. Must be fun to be a “journalist” at a newspaper - $25k a year to write garbage that no one reads just to sell advertisements for ab rolling machines.

Gossip? Their predictions are now backed by the numbers. RE brokers hate this site for obvious reasons.

Not only backed by numbers but but daily news as well, whereas they are published by highly estimated editors like the NY time, the economist, Bloomberg news, you name it.

"a journalist in THE newspaper" means something.

of course it means something. not least that the article will contain phrases like "scientific data on the topic is tough to find but the anecdotal evidence is sure compelling..." just before introducing us to 3 examples: rufus, w81st and alpine. hell, the NYT is just the best journalism in town!
