I thought the question deserved its own thread. Let's throw in radiator covers and custom non-kitchen carpentry/furniture.

Maybe www.apartmenttherapy.com is the way to go on this question. I just figured there is a "renovation" category on here so I'd take a shot.

I have a great gal who built our bookshelves and TV unit. Great & talented carpenter - might be too busy to take on new projects but.....917-627-5118 her name is Ana Szlyd (pronounced sheild)

Don't laugh me out of here BUT...Gothic Cabinetry really shouldn't be overlooked when considering built-ins and radiator covers. The previous owner of my apartment used them to customize a 20' long window seat with storage underneath and bookcases on either side as well as other pieces. They did an excellent job.

Have you checked out Manhattan Cabinetry?

Expensive, but the quality looks very good. I've been to their showrooms.

I would think brownstoner.com would be the way to go if you're getting small jobs done.

For larger projects, such as a kitchen, I have heard very good things about Little Wolf on the UES.

Hubby and I personally had the Murphy Bed Center in Chelsea do a gigantic bed/bookshelf system for us, but that was a fairly big job too -- ran about $8,000 a few years ago.

Worth every penny though.

If you want extremely well crafted, hand made stuff (all done in a shop in the East Village) I highly reccomend codfish park designs http://www.codfishpark.com/Codfish_Park_Design/Home.html. The owner (Tyler Merson) is a smart, hands on craftsman. He did some amazing cabinetry and built in work for our loft. No slapdash work here -- he is the real deal (i.e. it ain't cheap, but is worth it).
