Discussion about
I can't wait to hear her speech tonight. As an independent who actually disliked Obama during the primaries, her nomination shoved me firmly into BO's camp. Her selection makes McCain seem unstable (like an old guy whose age allows him not to care what anyone else thinks), and now I'm seriously afraid of what could happen if the McCain-Palin ticket made it to the White House. And to think I thought I could support McCain at one point!!
Obama is the "elitest" huh?
cindy McCain's outfit at the convention cost over $300,000
Cindy McCain
Oscar de la Renta dress: $3,000
Chanel J12 White Ceramic Watch: $4,500
Three-carat diamond earrings: $280,000
Four-strand pearl necklace: $11,000–$25,000
Shoes, designer unknown: $600
Total: Between $299,100 and $313,100
Wow! No wonder McCain has so many houses: his wife has the price of a Scottsdale split-level hanging from her ears.
petrfitz: You're falling right into the trap. In Obama's words, if the Democrats are foolish, they will allow the Republicans to "make a big election about small things." Like, for example, the price of Cindy's earrings.
You shouldn't vote for McCain because his wife's family built a business from nothing and have been very successful? Are you actually trying to say that John McCain can't relate to stresses in life because he has lived a life of luxury? Are you really trying to make that ridiculous claim? petr, you really don't help advance the liberal positions with any of your biased propoganda arguments, you really don't.
Well put West81st, remember, "It's the economy, stupid," (and the war).
petrfitz, to a casual reader it would seems blatantly clear that you place absolutely zero weight to the life long accomplishments of either one of these individuals. I would hate to ask what in the heck the opposing candidate has accomplished that begins to resemble the guts & grit these two individuals have demonstrated through actions/deeds as opposed to a pile of unproven rhetoric.
Yes, they are wealthy. They are self made individuals as I suspect are quite a few others that post here. There is no shame in acquiring an darn good education, working your rear off and living the American dream. Government help need not apply. Perhaps in the new society, personal responsibility is seen as threat to certain political groups whose ambitions seem to rest on developing a voting block that is reliant on them.
So, is this the Democratic playbook you're pulling out? If it is, it sure as hell smells like a pile of rotten fish.
Serge - in what way is McCain a "They are self made individual?"
MCain got into Naval Academy because his father was an admiral. He graduated at the bottom of his class but still got into the pilot school because his father was an admiral. He divorced his first wife for a rich woman who inherited money and he moved to Arizone where her family were solicalites. He used their money and position to get elected.
Self made?
"Serge - in what way is McCain a "They are self made individual?"
A bit of reading on the life story of both and their families would shed some light on the subject.
There are plenty of self made individuals & families that have devoted a chuck of the lives to public service. In our neighborhood, Major Bloomberg comes immediately to mind.
So McCain's record of service to his country had nothing to do with his getting elected to Congress? He was only elected because his wife's family bought his way in? Keep pushing this crap petr, because you make more and more people scared of the left wing social liberals like you that are out there.
petrfitz, wow! Even Senators Biden or Obama would never summarize Senator MCcain's service to the US in this manner. If I didn't know better, I would sat that this is a characterization directly from Politico(total garbage).
BTW, he VOLUNTEERED to serve his country when he had absolutely no reason to do so. I'm sure the fact that he was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Distinguished Flying Cross means nothing as well. As I mentioned above, read the facts.
I know, it's not as adventurous to fly 23 combat missions over sunny Hanoi & refuse early POW release as he would not leave his POW comrades behind when compared to snacking on Rugula and sipping a latte.
Winning strategy for Obama: Link McCain to Bush ("10% chance of change"), and run against Bush. Stress carefully selected no-brainers that the Republicans got wrong and McCain went along: alternative energy, conservation, climate change, Afghanistan. Show flexibility on issues where absolutism gets Democrats in trouble: school choice, tax policy, gun control, Roe. Preach tough love on the mortgage crisis and deficit to appeal to independents. Mostly ignore Palin; if her sarcasm and shrillness go stupidly over the top, maybe use her to illustrate that the Republicans are still the party of Rovian pit bulls, with or without lipstick.
Losing strategy for Obama: Nit-pick McCain's halo as a POW, maverick, reformer, straight-talker, whatever. Dismiss Palin as a lightweight, and use McCain's selection of her to illustrate his recklessness. Doing so simply sets the bar low, a classic Democratic mistake.
If it comes down to a battle of tarnishing halos, Hanoi Hilton trumps Harvard Law Review, rousing speeches and a perfect family.
Vote Republican even though the Republicans are running against their own party! Vote Republican as the party to bring change to Washington that has been ran by Republicans for the past 8 years!
Great strategy! Vote for McCain because he is the guy to change what he voted for 90% of the time!
Obama voted with Harry Reid 97% of the time, and Reid and the Congress have a lower approval rating than Bush. I can point to several important issues where McCain differed with Bush - McCain criticized Bush's handling of the war and called for the troop surge before anyone else, campaign finance, the approval of judicial appointments, immigration. Tell me where Obama has ever parted from the most liberal, left-wing of his party? Show me where Obama has attempted any meaningful bi-partisan effort to resolve anything?
petr, thanks for showing everyone why not to vote democrat.
"Vote Republican even though the Republicans are running against their own party! Vote Republican as the party to bring change to Washington that has been ran by Republicans for the past 8 years!
Great strategy! Vote for McCain because he is the guy to change what he voted for 90% of the time!"

It takes a lot more guts to take a stand and vote on issues than to weasel out with an absurd "present".
What exactly is the Washington elite? Why is Obama supposedly a member of this group and McCain isn't? Do they eat at different restaurants or can one always get a table and the other can't? Does one go to more cocktail parties than the other? Is a black junior senator with a couple of years in D.C. and who is the children of asingle poor parent "elite," but a guy with nearly 3 decades inside the beltway who is married to one of the wealthiest women in America and who lives in 7 houses is less "elite"? I just don't understand this argument at all. I don't get the point. Attempting to raise the level of discourse to a higher intellectual plain is a bad thing and now called "elitest." How does throwing that type of word around help us as a nation? How does it move us ahead?
it takes guts to stand up agaisnt yourself? to me it seems he is saying "when it was opportunistic for me to support disasterous policies I did, now that they didnt work out I will vote against them!"
What does that say about judgement or country before party?
John McCain was for his voting record before he was against it.

McCain quote "I voted with the President more than 90% of the time, even higher than most of my Republican collegues"
LICC: Obama IS mostly a conventional liberal, and his acceptance speech showed that he's not afraid to run as one. He's gambling that most swing voters actually agree with core liberal policies, and that "liberal" has become a dirty word because of the nonsense that got tacked onto the liberal agenda. Clinton stripped a lot of that ideological baggage away, but couldn't close the deal for his party because he let himself get sucked (wink wink) into culture-war sideshows.
Obama believes that Reagan conservatism is tapped out intellectually, and that liberals can actually win on substance. I don't know whether he's right, but he doesn't have much choice but to try. If he runs as the Messiah, he's playing right into McCain's hands, and he seems to know it.
John McCain stood up against Bush, then embraced him whole heartedly 90% of the time, then when running for President rejected what he previously supported in Bush, then supported Bush in allowing him to speak at the convention, then rejected him in speeches, then supported Bush politicis by naming Palin, then rejected Bush in his acceptance speech, but supports the Bush tax cuts.
doesnt that describe a psychotic approach to politics? If not psychotic isn't it opportunistic?
let's see if Liberal is a dirty word:
I was liberal in my love for my children. I was liberal in giving to the poor. I was liberal in my attitude toward my fellow countrymen.
vs.
I was conservative in my love for my children. I was conservative in giving to the poor. I was conservative in my attitude toward my fellow countrymen.
could you say that
Jesus was liberal in his love for man.
Or
Jesus was conservative in his love for man.
I agree with West81st. Obama has to follow Clinton's lead in defeating GHW Bush-it is the economy. Don't get bogged down in ticky tack garbage.
petr, you are being either hypocritical or ignorant if you are trying to claim that McCain takes opportunistic positions, when in reality he has taken unpopular positions within his party such every one I noted above, and when Obama has been one of the more opportunistic candidates around. He promises to take public financing when it sounded good, then decided not to; he says the surge is a failure, then pulls the statements off his website when his position was shown to be wrong; he takes the left-wing (environmentalist hijacked) positions against producing more domestic energy when the country needs to enhance its energy resources; he flopped around trying to find a position on the Russia-Georgia conflict; he says different things about the Israeli-Palestinian situation depending upon to whom he is speaking; he promises to throw taxpayer money at everything to gain popularity.
petr, your opinions are becoming laughable.
LIC - McCain took "unpopular" positions 10% and in his own words "less than his Republican peers"
real maverick!
I suggest that you rent Hanoi Hilton or read McCain's book. Your misinformed disdain for a guy who went through unspeakable torture makes me sick. If Democrats think like you, and from watching MSNBC a lot of them do, then its no wonder why Obama's going to lose.
I actually heard some grown fat guy liberal on his bluetooth next to me in Starbucks yesterday at the top of his lungs screaming at the other voice in his head while sipping a $6 latte "And that goddamn Down's syndrome baby. As if we give a shit."
Wait....was that you petrputz?
Jesus was conservative with sex
Jesus was liberal with sex. What else should I make up?
Stop being a retard petrfitz. You are nothing but a hypocrit. Now you still haven't answered my question. Do you honestly think Obama have gotten where he is if he was a white man? Well, you seem to think Palin was given a special treatment and that no woman should be right for the job.
Liberal or conservative can both be dirty word depending on how you put it. Your thick headed skull seem onesided imo.
Yesterday Olbermann claimed Palin went to "5 different colleges" before graduating, gleefully I might add as if that, if true, is somehow a negative. I know a guy who failed out of the same college twice and runs a100 MM plus business. I mean, these guys just don't get it.
You do not have to go to Harvard to have a brain. Regardless of Andrea Manface Mitchell's assertion that "only the uneducated" would vote for Palin. Thats elitism.
I'm waiting for Obama and Ms. Obama to release their HS, College, SAT and LSAT grades. Lets see how they got into Columbia/Princeton/Harvard, respectively. What are they hiding?
ba - please cite 1 example where Jesus stated he was conservative in regard to sex. just 1.
Obama isn't following Clinton's lead at all. Obama does have another choice - do what Clinton did and come closer to the center. Bill Clinton was a moderate Democrat, especially when it came to domestic policy. Obama is much farther left in his policies than Bill Clinton was.
I duno why you guys waste your time with the Fitz. He has been completely exposed as a total hack. He wouldn't post links to his smear articles, he wont respond to valid arguments because he knows he has lost (and if you ask me which ones Petr, all that BS yesterday that you completely stopped talking about after I exposed you), and his only option is to change the subject to another one of his issues with Republicans. It is a waste of time...much like banging your head against the wall.
Hmm, still waiting for petr to give examples of Obama taking a position contrary to his party or working with Republicans to resolve any issues.
Just keep spewing the same bad lines that no one but radical left-wingers are buying petr, and see Obama lose the election trying to appeal to that type of nonsense.
Not to mention that Joe Biden went to Syracuse Law School. Not to denigrate that institution, but when your minions attack Palin for going to a non ivy, it becomes an issue. Biden's no genius.
Morevoer, I'd hire a kid from Annapolis over one from Harvard any day of the week. Generally, however, those kids have superseding obligations.
obama getting to where his as a white man? hmm - degree from columbia, law degree from harvard, president of law review, 12 years at the University of Chicago, mostly as a senior lecturer on constitutional law. It was a job that helped him make money while he began to build his political career. But it also happened to place him inside what is arguably the intellectual center of modern American economic conservatism, the home of Milton Friedman, comunity organizer working with the most needy when politicians let them down, state senator, US Senator, world figure, 20 months of vetting and debating for US President, did something no republican ever has been able to do - beat a clinton in a election - and he beat 2 at one time....
So yea I actually do believe that Obama could be where he is if he was a white man.
Oh yeah Obama did all of that being raised by a single mother with no money, and didnt have a father who was an admiral or head of the CIA, or a millionaire.
you avoided the question. what were his and her quantititative qualifications to get into Columbia/Princeton/Harvard Law. fair question, PARTICULARLY when your attack dogs go after Palin for a purported lack of qualifications.
LIC - Obama position to the contrary of his party is Ethics Reform Bill:
"Mr. Obama played a central role in this effort. Forcing fellow members of Congress to disclose the names of lobbyists who bundle campaign donations is not the sort of thing that endears you to your colleagues"
TA would you higher a C- bottom of the class undergrad student from Anapolis or a Syracuse Unive Law School Graduate?
You
Are
A
Hack
putz gets his "facts" about Saint BH Obama from MSNYT ediorial page:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/21/opinion/21mon2.html?ref=opinion
Sizzlack - that is the kind of thing you say when cant argue against facts.
petrfitz,
now, here is my 2nd question. Do you think obama would've gotten to Havard, columbia, etc if he was a whiteman? When I was in medical school over 10 years ago, ALL minories were given special admission and scholarships. Do I think it's fair? Yes, as our society needs more culturally diversed group of professional. But I don't like your perception toward Parlin, you are being a hypocrit.
TA - not only did Palin not "Go Ivy" she attended 5 colleges in 6 years and ended up with a journalism degree.
Which prepares you more to run a country - a journalism degree from a middle of the road college, or a constitional law degree from the top university in the world?
"TA would you higher [sic] a C- bottom of the class undergrad student from Anapolis or a Syracuse Unive Law School Graduate?"
your complete mutilation of the word "hire" aside, I'm willing to believe that you have half a brain, but my answer is generally, military experience is much more appreciated than random academic experience.
Ba - yes I do believe that Obama would have gotten into both schools were he not black. Do you have ANY proof to the contrary?
And didnt you go to school in Canada?
Really...thats funny coming from you. Let's review the facts shall we?
You said Palin was a Jew hater.
I asked for evidence.
You provided some incoherent article that made little sense, and when I asked for a link, you refused to post one.
I then went and found the article you referred to the first time.
And after reading the entire thing, something I doubt you did, I found a quote that was clearly inconvenient for you.
What was that quote? It said that Palin's two staunchest Jewish allies in Alaska said she was a friend of the Jews and there is nothing to suggest otherwise. But because that was inconvenient to the narrative you were trying to weave, you chose not to post a link to the article at all, because you knew people would see that quote and realize that you made the whole thing up. You then completely changed subjects and did not respond to what I said for the rest of the day.
So you can tell me that I have no facts, but actions speak louder than words and your actions indicate you are totally full of sh*t.
haha and if you really want to talk about facts, you actually did respond to my charge yesterday, by saying that I must agree with everything Jerry Falwell says. How you got there I have absolutely no idea whatsoever, but THAT is the kind of thing someone does when they have no facts.
Sizzlack - sorry on that issue I pulled McCain - I was for something that I wrote, now I am totally against what I wrote myself. Kind of like McCains immigration bill.
Also Palin does have a Jewish problem. I did not create it just pointing it out to you. Even if it cant be proven it doesnt mean that it is not a prblem for her with that community. Remember the Obama muslim lie - did you forward that email to anyone? or did you refute it?
Jsut wondering.
nope ivy medical in USA.
ba - oh then you are an elitist.
BA - I bet the only reason that you got into that school is because you were a Canadian and qualified under diversity admissions.
No guy, you see I don't go out of my way to smear people with lies like you do on a minute by minute basis. I never got the Obama Muslim email because I am not signed up to any of those BS lists. What does "sorry on that issue I pulled McCain" mean? Is that english? I will give you the opportunity to post a link to that second article again, the one where that neo nazi called her pastor. But you didn't yesterday and I doubt you will today, and until you do, there is absolutely no way you can be taken seriously.
That's it petr? A technical ethics bill?
There is no such thing as a constitutional law degree. Law schools don't have majors. You can get a post-JD degree, usually called an LLM, in a specific subject, but that doesn't apply to this discussion.
"Ba - yes I do believe that Obama would have gotten into both schools were he not black. Do you have ANY proof to the contrary?"
My proof is totally anecdotal, I agree. He and his wife are black and applied for and attended schools historically reserved for non blacks and during a time in which affirmative action procedures were not only prevalent but much less vetted than today. That and his wife's brother played for Princeton basketball when she applied. He's also the all time leading scorer there.
Were his crowd not to have attacked Palin's U of Idaho background, there would be no need to question his pedigree or purported lack thereof (his words in his speech--said he lacked the "pedigree"). However, were he and his wife to release their grades, they could shut me up real quick.
I did not go to school in Canada. That must be another of your imaginary Internet nemeses.
and if this "jewish problem" you speak of is real, why do you compare it to the "Obama muslim lie". Could it be because they are both lies????? Shocka
"Which prepares you more to run a country - a journalism degree from a middle of the road college, or a constitional law degree from the top university in the world?"
guy, there is no such thing as a "constitutional law degree". There is only a "law degree". And no, having one in no way prepares you to be President.
Hey come on guys...in Petrs world Obama has a constitutional law degree...let him have one!
Ronald Reagan went to Eureka College. People waited for over four hours to see his body. Does that answer your ridiculous question?
Would McCain have gotten into the Naval Academy if he were not the son and grandson of an Admiral?
Would McCain at the bottom of his class gotten to fly planes if he were not the son of an Admiral?
Would McCain gotten into politics if he didnt marry a wealthy woman whos family financed his campaigns?
Would McCain be running for President if he were born to a poor single mother in Kansas?
TA - people waited hours and hours to see Lennons body for decades. Are you comparing Reagan to Lennon?
Canadians don't get special admission. Only Blacks, Spanish and Native indians.
BA - that is a total lie - most US universities give spots not based upon performance to foreign nationals. Funny you got into college on affirmative action and you question whether or not Obama did.
Petrfitz, another absolutely wrong answer.
Canadians are treated just as same as out of staters. Canada is not considered foreign national in any school in NY and possibly the US to my knowledge. I am not here to bash Obama sneaking to Havard and Columbia under his skin. I believe in minority admission, it seems to me that you are the one bashing the minorities.
Parlin earned her spot just like Obama did. No need to bash her credentials or personal life. I could easily say the same about Obama being a muslim, terrorist, C- Grade student who got into Havard just because he knows how to throw some balls and his skin is black.
Palin earned her spot? BA are you saying that Palin is qualified to be President of the United States?
Petr I appreciate you taking me up on the offer to post a link to that article. Accuse me of having no facts, yet when I try to get a "fact" out of you you mysteriously stop responding to my posts. Good job.
what article are you sepaking about? remind me
sizzlack I will post the link if you answer these questions:
Would McCain have gotten into the Naval Academy if he were not the son and grandson of an Admiral?
Would McCain at the bottom of his class gotten to fly planes if he were not the son of an Admiral?
Would McCain gotten into politics if he didnt marry a wealthy woman whos family financed his campaigns?
Would McCain be running for President if he were born to a poor single mother in Kansas?
I'm sorry guy but what does my answering your questions have to do with your claim she is a "Jew hater". Oh whats that...they have nothing to do with each other? Ahhhha. You see Petr if your claim was legit...you would be jumping at the chance to post that garbage on here...but you still refuse. Requiring me to answer questions is just another way you dodge the REAL question. What does McCain going into politics have to do with Palin and her pastor? Nothing.
McCain being born to whoever is totally totally irrelevant. You simply don't want to answer...which is why...at least you're kind of being honest.
Sizzlack - I am now against that jew hater post, I was for it previously now I am against it. Just like McCain and the immigration policy that he wrote himself and now is against it. I refute that post. I admit that you are right and I was wrong but now I an right because I am against myself.
Now you please answer the questions.
HAHAHA! What article. I just said...the one where you said this neonazi called up her pastor pretending to be from a Jewish paper. I've asked you a good 6 times by now to post a link.
Way to run circles around answering the questions. Can you explain to me how me answering your loaded questions have anything ANYTHING anything at all to do with you 'Palin is a Jew hater' statement?
Sizzlack I dont have a link. I received an email that told me that she was a jew hater. I am now going on record as saying that she is not and in no way a jew hater.
Will you do the same about Obama being a Muslim?
So you are saying that McCain being born into priviledge is irrelevent, will you also say that Obama being black is irrelevent?
I am not interested in debating John McCain with you I know where you stand. I took issue with your 'Palin is a Jew hater" smear lie. Trying to link my argument to McCain is your way on not answering my actual claim.
so you wont refute those republican lies about Obama?
I never called Obama a Muslim to begin with. Why am I now supposed to "go on record" to "do the same"? Where did I say being born to privilege is irrelevant? Oh I see...only in your mind. Keep fightin that straw man buddy...hes dangerous!
Petr there is a difference between a Republican lie and YOUR lie. The Republicans don't represent me, I am not guilty of the things they say. You are however guilty of the things YOU say...and YOU said she was a Jew hater. I NEVER EVER said Obama was a Muslim, here or anywhere else. So NO I will NOT refute Republican lies because they aren't my lies to begin with.
When I said irrelevant I meant irrelevant in regards to the Palin jew hater argument.
Sizzlack
"McCain being born to whoever is totally totally irrelevant."
Sizzlack
less than a minute ago
Where did I say being born to privilege is irrelevant?
yep you are correct...and again..it was in regards to your requirng me to answer questions in order to get a link to a bogus article out of you. But if you want to twist my words to fit you agenda go ahead it wont be the first time. But again I will say..the birth mother of John McCain and her social status is totally irrelevant in regards to the Palin Jew hater argument.
back pedal caught in a lie!
twisting the argument. back pedal. You were for your statement before now you are against it.
Only in your mind. You have this habit of taking a sentence out of a statement and using it to weave a narrative that fits your demented view of the world. What I said was ..."McCain being born to whoever is totally totally irrelevant. You simply don't want to answer...which is why...at least you're kind of being honest." If you had comprehension skills, you could see that what I meant was that whoever he was born to is irrelevant because it has othing to do with answering the Palin Jew hater argument. But you clearly can't see that...so we ca be finished now. I just hope the other level headed Democrats on this board understand that it is people like you who give the left a horrible reputation.
Born into privilege? If anything, I would say that being born into a military family that has served this country for four generations is a positive characteristic of John McCain.
"So you are saying that McCain being born into priviledge ..."
I have to say that the repeated rantings of not only a person who cannot spell but who takes words and spells them phonetically ("see "higher" instead of "hire") such as yourself, calls other posters morons and questions the intelligence of someone merely because they went to the University of Idaho, tell me that you may just in fact have issues apart from who the next President is to contend with.
I fully understand that many folks misspell but your writings are incessantly incoherent and mutilated. I cannot help but think that we are wasting our valuable breaths even acknowledging your existence on this earth.
Vote for whomever the christ you want to. We'll do the same you can bet on that. Have a great day,
the new president of the united states !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
mccain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I want to offer a correction: previously, I said she was a member of an anti-American splittest party that wants Alaska to secede from the Union. Basically, similar to what so many people died over in the Civil War. But she wasn't -- it was Todd Putin who was.
Alan - But she did speak at their conention thisyear while a sitting governer and called their party important to alaska.
Jesus was a community organizer and Pontius Pilate was a governor, Laura Bush is a librarian and Sarah Palin bans books.
Which brings me to the funniest thing about the story of how Sarah Palin, upon becoming mayor of Wasilla, called up the local librarian to inquire about banning books: the idea never went anywhere because she didn't seem to know what books she'd ban! She just knew that she needed to ban some books!
So, ok Petrfitz banning books is a bad idea. People should be allowed to have books. But they shouldn't be allowed to live in a rental apartment without being mocked by you as irresponsible.
After reading this thread I'm convinced that liberal extremists and conservative extremists are exactly the same and they are both funding Al Queda.
A new poll shows that Alaska has swung from "lean blue" to "deep red" since the Palin pick. It's easy to scoff at three electoral votes, until you take a close look at the map. There are several ways Obama could wind up at 268 or 269.
How many of you people ranting about Palin have traveled to Alaska?
We are in the last days of the GOP hegemony. The clock is ticking but they don’t hear it. Obama is going to win big in the electoral vote and proceed on a two term ride. He will carry himself as he has and set the table for a democratic successor in 2016. Being Republican is going to increasingly become a moniker not worth revealing and their next chance at light will not be until 2020. The GOP is going to come to term with the fact that they are not the face of America.
It’s shameful the way the Republicans have conducted their overly negative campaign - like a bunch of frat boys ringing in a new pledge. Obama is an honorable man with an honorable record and honorable aims. For the Republicans to bring a rookie into the clubhouse and use her naivete against her by having her talk smack to a man that is leading the race to be the next President is pretty desperate. If McCain wins, Palin will be the Head of the Senate and its tie-breaker – who’s kidding who here. Every Republican office-holder who is so vehemently asserting that Palin’s choice as VP warrants far more merit than Obama and Biden combined may very well find that at re-election the joke is on them.
Obama graduated #1 in his law class at Harvard and rather than pursuing Master of the Universe money on Wall Street, he spent quality time early in his career being a community organizer. Do we really need to pursue this further or should a remedial class be brought to order on principle and character. Palin has a journalism degree, which took 5 colleges and 6 years to attain.
Maybe Palin has heard of the term “increasing globalization” and should consider its implications for the next American President before she ignorantly criticizes Obama’s European appeal.
I’ve always thought a card carrying “creationist” is just what the White House needed.
Here’s a little ditty from Time magazine, “Former Wasilla Mayor John Stein says that mayor Palin continues to inject religious beliefs into her policy at times. She asked the library how she could go about banning books, he says, because some voters thought they had inappropriate language in them. "The librarian was aghast." That woman, Mary Ellen Baker, couldn't be reached for comment, but news reports from the time show that Palin had threatened to fire Baker for not giving "full support" to the mayor”. Hymmmnn, judicious use of authority no doubt.
The unfolding Trooper-gate story also seems to have a lot of red meat in it as well.
Isn’t it great that the great state of Alaska may finally have a friend and advocate in the White House to help them secede from the lower 48.
It must be very liberating to the Republican party to celebrate the pregnancy of a 17 year old girl and see McCain hug and high-five her high school stud - a picture for the ages. Every parent in America must be proud. Talk about spin at its finest. Can you imagine Obama’s daughter being 17 years old and having the same thing happen to her? Oh boy, I can hear the GOP gallows rolling down the aisle.
Does the so-called liberal media have a right to scrutinize someone who is only running for an office a heartbeat away from the presidency?
Quayle is off the hook.
There is a reason Palin had not been part of the national conversation involving these elections and is just the final pathetic chapter of the Republican’s shock and awe campaign – nobody considered her qualified to be discussed. Her nomination is an insult to the American people, the party she represents, and every woman that has ever fought for merit-based equality.
Can you imagine a country doctor heading up a thirty doctor family practice being asked to run Sloan-Kettering? Imagine a decent, well-liked, fairly-successful manager of an A level minor league baseball team (not AAA or AA) in their second year at the helm after a successful stint managing Little League being asked to run the NY Yankees.
Biden will help Obama to be a better President with valuable input on foreign policy, national security, and domestic issues - and with the enormous task of navigating Washington politics. How is it possible that Palin is even in the room to discuss national security or foreign policy matters? What germane input is she qualified to offer? She only got to use a passport for the first time last year. They won’t even let her be interviewed by the media. Are we going to put someone a heartbeat away from the most important job in the world on an on-the-job-training basis with the future of America at stake? Putin’s smile would outshine even Biden’s pearly whites.
It’s McCain’s first big decision. He blew it. He panicked. He made a move to try and win the election rather than support the country. It’s a gimmick that reeks of Katrina, Irag, and the Credit crisis. Palin’s song and dance is not going to have legs on Broadway.
McCain was a legacy admittee to the Naval Academy who graduated 894th out of 899th and admits to not being very technologically astute or economically savvy and it shows. He should fest up about being judgment-challenged as well. Try to get a high level job on Wall Street or anywhere else without going through four or five interviews; McCain met Palin once, informally at a breakfast meeting months before. The day before he made his announcement, he decided, flew her in, and vetted her over dinner. No need to ask who drank all the kool-aid.
The last great President was a Rhode’s scholar. The next great President is a Harvard Law School grad who had to earn every single step along the way. It’s a very complicated world that demands an increasing degree of cerebral integrity not legacy C students, it’s definitely not a time for more of the same.
Palin should never have been thrust in this position. Marty Markowicz who runs Brooklyn is an impressive person. David Patterson is an impressive person. Bill Perkins of Harlem is an impressive person. There is no need to put her in the same sentence as Bloomberg. But I would not insult Palin by asking her to run against people who are in a league far beyond her own.
In 2020, the Republicans will have their next chance at light against the backdrop of the continued browning of America and their false sense of dawn.
Canny did you write that all at once without even editing it?
Hey can anyone tell me any laws that Obama led, either in the Senate or in Illinois?
...
let me get this straight: the entire arab world wants to kill all americans, and we want to elect one as president?? you better hope the old white guy gets elected
Who is arab? I thought you had to be born an American to run?
Europeans want Obama to win.....Arabs want Obama to win
Who cares what they want, they can't vote....
Let's see how smart Americans are!
canny, the left-wing propaganda department of moveon.org called, they want their notebook back.
