Discussion about
Not that this is any time to buy, but anyone know this building?
Yes, I've done appraisals in this building, very large, average size units, low maintenance.
crappy balconies
We had looked at a decent-sized (1,350 sq. ft.) 2 bedroom over a year ago that had been nicely gut renovated. However, the killer for me was that the ceilings are only 8' high (actually an appraiser measured it at 7'11"). If low ceilings are not a problem then you could find some decent units. For me (and I am 6'3"), the low ceilings made an otherwise roomy layout feel small and cramped.
across the street from my office!
1960s co-op (which means somewhat boxy layouts with decently-sized rooms), a smidge under 500 units, allows 80% financing.

A lot of apartments in this building and its doppelganger 15 W 15th are coming on the market - may be due to new hotel on 15th street.
I looked at several apartments in this building in '06 and '07. I agree with the earlier comments. The maintenance is pretty low. Some of the ceilings are not that high, but I don't think they are awful. This is a case by case situation. The balconies are not the fanciets, but depending on what can afford, having one is better than not having one. I love the location and neighborhood! The hotel being built is a bit of a drag, but in NYC it can happen to anyone. I do find the apartments fairly expensive for what they are and think they will come down a good bit, especially with a bunch on the market. I also generally liked the building, the foyer, nice doormen and it seemed to have a good vibe.
Overall, I liked it a lot, but would definitely wait to see how the market goes and for more units to come on the market. Then deal with them from a position of leverage if you think you want to live there.
