Discussion about
Hi Can anybody recommend a the names of a good real estate attorney from their own experiences? Please also give the reason why you thought they were good. I'm looking for someone who is thorough, spots red flags early on, returns calls and doesn't charge an arm and a leg. Looking to purchase a co-op.

Greg Maybaum - (212) 297-6220. He is a gem. He is always responsive. He is pragmatic. His fees are reasonable and he is the consummate professional. Best of luck with your purchase.

Jay Hollander-- http://www.hollanderco.com/

Jay has a very deep understanding of NYC real estate. I chose him on a recommendation as well- he assisted our friends with a coop purchase in FiDi. He assisted us on an offer on a coop in Kips Bay that we ultimately ended up walking away from. Jay found a lot of "holes" in the deal. I was pleased that he took the time to really explain things; he is fully aware of industry trends and errs on the side of caution. He is someone that we will definitely use when we do end up purchasing a coop/condo.

Good Luck.

Mary E Sheridan - she's awesome and fits everything that you're asking for. She's a union lawyer, but does closing on the sides. She's very, very thorough. If you want her direct line, email me at onamara@gmail.com.

Bob Levy is another good choice. Very thorough and accessible; reasonable rates; not afraid to deliver bad news.

I used the Law Offices of Kevin J. Farrelly. His number is (212) 684-8700. He is Manhattan based, but has clients all over.

Reasonablly priced. Very smart and dilegent. He takes all of the legal 'mumbo jumbo' and speaks plain English. Identifies 'red flags' and is really good at getting you to understand the risks involved.

I have recommended him before on this board--and hear good results. Also, I found a great painter in Manhattan--let me when you get ready to paint your new place.

I'm trying to get out of contract and there is an ambuigity in my purchase agreement which might give me a chance. Would appreciate recommendations for an attorney who has experience with new condo developments.

I highly recommend Alex Suslensky (212-929-7333). Check out his web site (www.suslaw.com). He gets quoted in the NY Times and is extremely knowledgeable. Before hiring him, we called around. Other guys charge more. I don't know why. Alex is very efficient and always accessible. He even gave us his cell number and told us we could call anytime. It was a pleasure working with him.
