Isn't there a line from LOTR that goes like that? It really seems as though when there is zero optimism left (we are not there yet) that that is THE bottom (unless of course we all descend into savagery and society as we know it collapses).

Terry Cole Whittaker says that when it looks like everything is falling apart, it's really falling together. I like that!
