Discussion about
Am I the only one who thinks the new real estate search function on the Times website is broken? I can't seem to get any results when I type in the input field.I do manage to get some results when I click on the Upper West Side link under the input field. What is going on?
It sort of works but keeps complaining about error code 400...

The NYTimes revamp is a mess!!
What are you inputting? Did you try by zip code?
The "new" NYT real estate search is AWFUL. It wasn't great before but it is terrible now. This actually leaves space in the nyc real estate market for a new/better/comprehensive web site for listings.
God, you're right, the thing sucks. Please write to them and tell them to go back to the old one until they get the thing working better. I'm having a hard time finding my own listing when I type in a street address and I am frustrated with the constantly updating search options and the error messages.
Craigslist is better than this...
Didn't the NY Times have these very same problems a year or two ago when they revamped their site last time?

I don't want to be "restricted" to a zip code. I want a broader look.
Can't they pay for a better programmer? They must make a bundle of money from real estate ads. Ridiculous.

Right. I love this notion in light of the discussions we've had about brokers deliberately listing properties with the wrong zip code. Does everybody in Manhattan have a perfect zip code map in their brain? Sure, you can look it up, but what a pain.
There are some things to like about the new app. The map interface is pretty cool. I wish they could stop the auto updating when you just move the price slider. Let me change a few options and hit a search button. Just stop all the error messages, please.
The interface is awkward. Did anybody do a little useability testing with some real users?
I like the fact that the streetview is right there - even on listings that disguise the address!
As a seller's agent, I'm having trouble with it too -- I have a Greenwich Village listing that isn't showing up in the 10014 search; my boss is talking to the Times now.

. . .listing is now up. Of course, you can't search by Web ID any more.

when did the system change? a broker (who is trying to get my listing) told me that their NY Times listings got virtually no hits in December while their brokerage site got normal traffic. Is this due to the site problems or are they just trying to dissuade me from going FSBO?
It changed yesterday, and it sucks. It makes me enter my password twice, every time. I'm fairly certain I'm not mistyping it every first time I log in.
NYT did re-vamp it about 1-2 years ago, with horrible results. After a big outcry, they returned it to its former self. Seems that they should do that again!
I saw a NYT person at the Inman Connect conference today, and she swears they're working on it. I especially put in a plea for finding properties by individual web ID (which you couldn't do on the site yesterday) and she said it's happening.

Thanks ali. I called twice in the last two days. Nice to know that the Times is doing its best to make it difficult for the remaining fifty buyers to find an apartment on their website. ;-) Who wants to search every single broker website for a listing?
It totally blows - anyone who paid for a listing should get a free week.
it is terrible - the worst thing is that you can't search descriptions anymore! (Unless I have missed it somehow). I used to have a search for any descriptions where the words "motivated seller" was included to identify anxious sellers. I can't do that anymore...
Worst site revamp ever. Absolutely awful. Aside from basic search malfunctions, and entire neighborhoods missing, when you click "next page" to get to the next batch of results, it crashes and says "no results." Not using it again.
