Rufus, can you please tell us why Chicago highrise condos tend to have more floors for a given height than New York condos? For the top 10, New York condos tend to average about 11.75 ft/floor whereas the average for Chicago is more than 1 foot less, under 10.75 ft/floor. Is it due the short, squat nature of the average person in Chicago? Or is that just "Chicago archictecture"? Please tell us.

Chicagoans aren't short -- their, um, ample girth makes them appear squat.

"The real estate consulting firm Appraisal Research Counselors reports buyers signed contracts for only 160 condos and townhouses in the third quarter. That's an 82 percent decline from the same period last year. The firm's Gail Lissner says she hasn't seen sales this low since just after September 11th.
