David Lereah, former chief economist of the National Association of Realtors, has been criticized for maintaining too optimistic a perspective on the housing market even as housing prices started to fall. Lereah said top NAR executives now won't return his calls. He was praised during the housing boom and in 2005 published his second book, "Are You Missing the Real Estate Boom?" Lereah said he was pressured by NAR executives to make optimistic forecasts and then blamed when the market turned sour. Lereah's own portfolio of condominium investments and his primary house have lost value

I like the last part which suggests that the band plays on.

My favorite part of the article:

"Mrs. Lereah, a CPA who also works at home, decided the only way she and her husband could work in the same house was if they pretended they were at outside offices. They communicate during the day by email and cellphone. Every morning, Mr. Lereah drives to a Dunkin' Donuts or McDonald's and eats in the car, just as he would have on his commute to NAR."

My aunt & uncle were married for over 50 years & he adored her & they had a lot of fun together but she didn't drive so he would drive her to work each morning. They would go about their business getting ready for work, sit in the car together NOT SAYING A WORD TO EACH OTHER then once they each got to work they'd call & say, "Good morning!" on the phone. I guess whatever works for you!?
